Proposed Changes to Eviction Notices

On 21 August 2020, in addition to the government extending the current stay on possession proceedings to 20 September 2020, the government also announced its intention to introduce measures to offer greater protection to residential tenants by requiring landlords to give at least 6 months’ notice of termination of the tenancy.

No legislation has yet been published and it is not known as to whether this will affect section 8 and/or section 21 notices.

In addition, the government has announced its intention to introduce further legislation once the current pandemic is over to deliver a better deal for renters and a fairer rental market.

There is no indication as of yet as to what this will mean for landlords.
