South Devon advisors help US Lawyer achieve his ambition to purchase an English Football Club

US lawyer and businessman, Rob Couhig, has finally achieved a long-held ambition by purchasing a 75% stake in English league one Football Club, Wycombe Wanderers FC.

Rob Couhig achieved his goal with the help of Cris Boyce, Head of Company Commercial, and accountant Simon Law at Mark Holt & Co Chartered Accountants.

Rob commented “We were fortunate to have Cris lead the team. We first began working with Cris almost 18 months ago after we made the decision to invest in an English Football Club. Cris brought superb talent and unique expertise to this task. I am personally very grateful.”

Cris Boyce, who is experienced in buying and selling football clubs for clients commented “These transactions are always complex. The takeover required the approval of the English Football League and the Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Trust. It was a real pleasure to help Rob on his journey to becoming an owner of an English Football Club. We wish him and Wycombe Wanderers the best for the future”.

Cris Boyce was supported by his partners John Townsend and Steve Hanbury from the corporate team and partner Cheryl Smith from the commercial property team.

As part of the purchase Feliciana EFL Limited, owned by Rob Couhig, invested £2.2million to settle the Club’s debts as well as providing an additional £1million for working capital. Feliciana has also negotiated a new 25-year lease for the Stadium.

Simon Law who has advised on several high-profile acquisitions in the West Country provided tax and accountancy advice. Simon commented “We are delighted to have been closely involved with the successful acquisition of Wycombe Wanderers. Working with Rob and his team has been an interesting and challenging experience, both from an accounting, tax and commercial perspective. It has been a pleasure working with all the professionals involved to deliver the right outcome for Rob and the football club. The whole team at Mark Holt & Co are really looking forward to our ongoing role working with Rob as the majority stakeholder of the club.”

Rob commented “We were fortunate to have assistance from Mark Holt & Co led by Simon Law and Stephanie Williams. They were able to not only assist me in both understanding the past losses but gain a real insight into the present and future.”

For Rob Couhig this will be a family venture as he will be joined on the board by two members of his family, his wife Missy and his nephew Peter.
