Following the decisive result of the election last week, the Prime Minister will have leaving the EU at the top of his agenda. Returning to the recently negotiated Withdrawal Agreement, this will likely happen by 31st January 2020.
If so, EU nationals will have until 31 December 2020 to be resident in the UK in order to qualify for immigration status, and until 30 June 2021 to apply for that status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS).
During the transition period, from the date of Brexit until 31 December 2020, it is anticipated that free movement rules would remain in force. A points-based immigration system is planned to be in place for both EU and non-EU nationals arriving from January 2021 onward.
If you employ staff from the EU we can help advise you in more detail about the sort of audit and information gathering exercise you will need to undertake. Please contact Andrew Macmillan or complete our contact form for more information.Back to News
