Western Morning News – Deals Review 2018
Boyce Hatton Corporate Team
It proved to be another busy year for the Boyce Hatton Corporate Team.
Deals activity in the South West remained strong, with the corporate team advising on more than 20 corporate transactions during 2018, with an aggregate value of in excess £180m. This continued the upward trend that the team has experienced over the last 3 or 4 years, reflecting the resilient and active regional economy. Deals advised on included the acquisition and disposal of businesses as well as demergers and company reorganisations.
The year was also a successful one for Boyce Hatton as a whole. The firm was delighted to win the 2018 Law Firm of the Year Award (1-10 Partners) at the Devon and Somerset Law Society Awards. This was driven in part by the successful opening of a second branch of the firm in Totnes. The office has fully established itself now, generating instructions for the corporate team as well as other parts of the firm.
Boyce Hatton operates a niche corporate practice. The Boyce Hatton Corporate Team prides itself on the level of personal service it offers. Corporate team partners Cris Boyce and John Townsend have a wealth of experience, with each having over 30 years’ experience of advising clients on corporate transactions: their expertise is recognised throughout the South West. The team has been strengthened by the addition of a third partner, Stephen Hanbury, who has particular expertise in due diligence and disclosure exercises which form a vital part of acquisitions and disposals.
The corporate team is supported by Andrew Macmillan who heads up the employment team and advises clients on the employment law aspects of corporate deals. Andrew has been advising clients on such matters for more than twenty-five years.
Amongst the transactions that the corporate team advised on during 2018 was the sale in August 2018 of South West Laundry Holdings Limited to quoted company Johnson Service Group PLC for £15.5m. South West Laundry is based in Hayle, Cornwall.
The corporate team also advised the owners of Coast and Country Cottages based in the South Hams on its sale in July 2018.
Cris Boyce commented: “It has been another good year for the corporate team and we have advised clients based in the UK, the Channel Islands and the USA on a wide range of corporate transactions. 2019 is certainly going to be an interesting year with all the current political uncertainties and more than ever clients are going to need sound commercial legal advice.”
