Boyce Hatton named law firm of the year (1 to 10 Partners) at Devon & Somerset legal awards
Here at Boyce Hatton, we are celebrating scooping the Law Firm of the Year award (1-10 partners) at the prestigious Devon & Somerset Law Society (DASLS) Legal Awards that took place at a glittering ceremony in Torquay.
The movers and shakers of the Devon and Somerset legal scene gathered at the Riviera International Conference Centre for the awards which are now in their third year and have become one of the fixtures of the annual calendar. Additional stardust was provided through the presence of special guest Mike Tindall MBE, former England rugby international.
We were absolutely delighted to win the award, after a highly successful year which saw us expanding from our long-established base in Torquay to open a second office in Totnes. The office opened on schedule in the summer of 2017 and has already had a strong impact in the market. While many other firms are retrenching in uncertain economic times, we entered into a new phase in our history!
At the same time, we continued to support the Women in Torbay and Totnes network that we set up in 2016 and which regularly attracts 40-60 local business women at each meeting.
We also continued our commitment to apprentices as a way of opening up routes into the legal profession: six apprentices have now come through the firm and several of them have gone on to take up permanent roles.
An additional highlight of the awards came when our Practice Administrator, Kate Gillette, won a commendation in the Support Team Member of the Year category. Kate was instrumental in planning and organising the opening of the Totnes office and has also helped drive the Women in Torbay and Totnes network.
Managing Partner, Mark Pierce said: “We are thrilled and honoured to have received this recognition, which caps off a fantastic year for the firm. The opening of our Totnes office has been a great success. Our Private Client business retains a loyal and growing customer base, while the business punches well above its weight when it comes to Corporate and Commercial work, undertaking transactions of significant value for clients with interests both inside and outside the region.
“With solid financial performance year on year, a refreshed management and operational team, and a commitment to supporting key community and social issues, we are looking to the future with confidence.”
